Cloudbusting

Thank you to all who came along to the Baby Tiger John Peel Tribute night last week. A great excercise in what I would call a blanket campaign of zero publicity and input.

Bobby is playing with The Red Well (Fence Records) in Glasgow tonight (Tuesday 18th October), Liam is on holiday and I'm in such a pensive mood I'm taking photos of myself with a camcorder. The recording of the album has reached a small impasse and in the meantime I'm writing some more songs including a folk-epic about myspace and new stationery.

I'll mention some other musical stuff encountered last week. Sufjan Stevens at Oran Mor and Jandek, Jo-Jo, Black Boned Angel and Up-Tight at the Install Festival. First was amazing, second was interesting. Especially Jo-Jo a solo Japanese performer with just a Gibson SG, some effects pedals and a Roland amp. Ending with him grabbing the neck of his guitar and screaming at it while it screamed at him. Brilliant to see Sufjan Stevens with full band and his new album put into clever context on the stage.

I'll keep you updated with album news and a possible Christmas performance soon. Check out Bobby's thoughts about the Peel thing in general on The Folk blog.

"its like billy elliot without the dancing"

That is very funny! I like it a lot.

Harsh comments from Nikki there! Personally I'd like to see more. Any chance of a sneaking glimpse of some other instruments...the pink oboe perhaps?

Nothing quite so 'wood'wind. I do have a brown horn though.

Jesus, this is starting to sound like a very gay thread to match the gay photographs. Next photoshoot: Quentin Crisp theme with a 'touch' of Andy Peters.

No news is bad news. Away on holiday for a week then it's all hands on deck for the good ship The Folk to get as much sailing done before Christmas as possible.

Is a blog better or worse than a myspace? I don't like myspace but probably will do when they update it to give you the ability of saying "f*ck off, you are not my friend you utterly pathetic "zaney" American Jock with a funny hat in your photograph, or slightly cooky indie girl with attitude trying to look sultry in your photograph". Might create one when we've got the basic tracks down and roughly mixed so people can hear the new stuff.

Whoever put that very offensive reply to a couple of threads down would be my "friend" though.

While I remember - could you link the folk to the blog as opposed to the website. Chars.

Go to The Folk blog instead - it is much better, and always has a music link with every post. There may be a newish The Folk ? Gadgee demo on the go soon too.

Oh aye! First I knew. May be time soon to combine our Blogging powers into one totally sth*te Blog.

I've maybe done a u-turn on my attitude to Myspace but there'll be a strict friends policy. Good way for people to stumble onto our stuff. For stumble read get home from work, eat microwave meal and open leftover beer from weekend, log onto pc and scroll through Myspace friends for three hours.
